Pallet Shelving: One Use For Old Pallets

If you have many old pallets that are no longer usable for storage you may be looking for other uses for them.  There are actually many uses for the old pallets you possess, you just have to be a little imaginative.   We will talk about a few great uses for old pallets and pallet racking left over parts and pieces in this article. 

The first logical thing to do with old pallets, assuming that there are still some good boards left, is to make the old pallet shelves into standard or floating wall shelves.  You can simple rip the old pallets or pallet rack shelving apart and use the good pieces that are left to create your own wall mounted shelving units. This is a great way to make you own storage out of something you already have and save some money at the same time.  You may be able to fill your wall with valuable storage this way for pennies on the dollar. 

If you or your business has a wood stove used for heating this too can be one good use for old pallets.  All you have to do is break up the old pallets into pieces small enough to fit into your wood stove and you are ready to heat your garage, warehouse or home for absolutely free.  This can be great way to save on your utility bills and today everybody is trying to find a way to go green and this is the perfect way for some people to recycle their unused pallet rack shelving. 

Another great idea for using old pallet racking, if yours are constructed from metal, is to use the old shelves to make a small fenced in area, the grate of some pallet racks works perfect for this purpose! 

If you are not in a situation to make use of the old pallet racking shelves as firewood there are some other ways you can still use the left over wood. Pallet shelving can also be broken down and then ran through a chipper to make some very cheap and useful mulch. The wood may not be suitable for this if it has been treated, this will have to be observed to tell first. But if you can chip your old pallet racking into mulch this can be a great way to keep the weeds down around your flower garden or even to cover some unwanted overgrowth in any other part of your yard. Using small pieces of wood can make a great media to stop runoff water from eating away at the ground if you have a problem area around the house also.
