Taking Care Of Your Mini Blinds
67Keeping your mini blinds looking like new may be easier said than done, but there are some things that you can do to help keep them in tip top shape even if they are not brand new. We know that every day wear and tear can make some blinds look old and ragged in no time at all but there is no reason that you can't add years of life to any cheap mini blinds with a few easy tips. We will discuss some common sense ideas to help you get more years out of your investment here and hope that you find out that it is really not that hard to care for your mini blinds.
Installation
Here are a couple of quick tips we have for you if you are getting ready to install your new mini blinds. First, make sure that you buy the right size. We know this sounds silly, but there is nothing more frustrating than having to return the min blinds you just bought to go get the right size, so measure first! Next once you have them out of the box, you need to have not only a level handy but also a ruler. You will want to measure from the back corner of the window sill and from the top of the window sill down on both sides to find the placement of your brackets. Just to be safe, we suggest you keep the level out to make sure they sit flush even after measuring, not all window sills are made perfectly square, so this will help. Now, before you put the screws in, we suggest that you use a drill to create guides for the screws. This will help you get the screws in much easier and also will prevent future splitting of the wood.
Cleaning Your Mini Blinds
You want to keep your mini blinds looking great right? Especially if you have a set of black mini blinds on which dust is very obvious. Well, there are some great cleaning solutions on the market that you can submerse your aluminium blinds or vinyl mini blinds in to take of years of dust and grime and these do work wonders. However, it is much easier to keep your mini blinds clean by dusting them often. This not only keeps them looking great from day to day, but will also avoid the nonuniform fading caused by years of sunlight. If the blinds are clean you will not get that spotty fade that you may have seen on a lot of mini blinds.
Kids and Pet Safety
There are some accidents that you simply cannot avoid, but there are some things that you can do make them less likely. The biggest thing that you can do to avoid unnecessary accidents from children and pets is to keep any toys, games, or other items of interest to them away from the windows. If you can do anything to keep your children and pets away from the aluminium mini blinds the less likely they are to cause any damage to them.
Dismounting Mini Blinds
If you ever have to remove or change your mini blinds, make sure you have a clean work space so no accidents happen first. Then, all you really need to do is remove the front plates on either. Now you can pull out the main blind attachment. You now can simply unscrew the brackets with a screwdriver. If you are not going to replace the mini blinds you may want to fill the screw holes with some wood putty to make the window sill look a lot better!
